FAQ's

1.1 The auction

1.1.1 How does the auction work?

The auction of the reference picture sites will take place as a so-called reverse auction, i.e. the maximum auction price is daily reduced in de-fined steps from the date the auction begins, as long as a bid is award-ed, or the auction expires upon reaching the minimum price. You have the possibility to place your bid during the entire auction. As soon as the current daily price of the auction reaches the offer of a bidder, that bid is awarded. Hence you always have the opportunity to buy a reference picture site as it were directly, by offering the current price.

1.1.2 Who may bid?

Participation in the auction is free of charge and only requires the registration and login onto the auction platform. For terms of use and the general business, please see terms and conditions.

1.2 Contract and contract period

1.2.1 How long will my picture be displayed?

The contract period for the publication of a reference picture is stated both in the auction platform as well as on your bill. It amounts, unless stated otherwise, two years.

1.2.2 What happens after expiry of the contract?

After expiry of the contract, the reference picture site is brought to auction again. The auction follows the same process as the initial auction.

1.2.3 What happens during new eCl@ss releases?

During the period for which you purchased a picture site by auction, it may occur that, as part of a new eCl@ss release, picture sites you have purchased become obsolete e.g. if the related class is withdrawn or merged with another class. In this case, the publication period will be reduced and you will receive the amount paid pro rata. Legally obliging details on this item can be found in the terms and conditions.

1.2.4 What happens after the auction?

First you will receive an invoice by email. Please pay the invoice within the given term. At the same time, you may already send us your product picture (or if you have purchased more than one class site, your product pictures) to the following address: pictures@eclass.com

Please note that the name of the picture file must contain the eCl@ss-identifier and conceptually comply with the following example: „AAA316.jpg“(for 21-04-01-04 „Double open-jaw wrench“). Several pictures can be packed in one ZIP file, every single graphic file within the ZIP file must then comply with the example above. The corresponding identifier can be found in the auction portal or on your bill. Further information about nature and use of identifiers can be found in the manual.

1.3 Help and support

1.3.1 How do I locate relevant classes?

To identify the relevant classes for your reference pictures, the auction portal offers the possibility to search within classes and keywords. Thus, the appropriate product classes can be located, displayed and flagged for future auctions.

1.3.2 How can I purchase a reference picture site by auction without knowing eCl@ss?

For users that are not familiar with the eCl@ss standard, the eCl@ss head office provides an identification service. With it, the customer receives a list, created by the eCl@ss office, of relevant classes for respective products. In this case please send us a direct inquiry to pictures@eclass.com

1.3.3 How will I know when my relevant classes do come up for auction?

The product classes come up for auction in predefined tranches according to their assignment to the respective segments and main groups. In the portal both currently running and future, meaning planned but not yet started, auctions are listed. In addition, each user has the possibility to “flag” a class which is not provided for auction yet, to come up earlier for auction. The user is then notified by email about the auction dates of his flagged classes.

1.3.4 Can I leave the auction and processing to my advertising agency?

Participation in the auction and processing can of course also be conducted by an assigned advertising agency.

1.3.5 Who or what is eCl@ss?

eCl@ss is the international standard for a uniform and consistent classification and description of products, materials and services along the entire value chain. The eCl@ss association is the organization that internationally defines, develops and distributes the standard crossindustry.

1.4 Costs

1.4.1 What are the costs for a reference picture site?

The price of a reference picture site depends on the developing of the respective auction. The starting price of the auction for a reference picture site may vary depending on the classes. During the reverseauction this price is reduced daily by a fixed amount, usually € 100, until the price reaches the offer of a bidder, a bidder hits on the current price or the auction ends upon reaching the minimum price with no acceptance of a bid.

1.4.2 What other costs are involved?

In order to publish a reference picture, it must meet the quality requirements according to the terms of use. Additional costs may thereby incur for the editing of corresponding product pictures if necessary.

1.4.3 How much does an editing of the pictures cost if necessary?

The delivery of the product pictures according to the required quality is within the responsibility of the user. For the editing of delivered pictures, the eCl@ss office offers a charged service. The editing fee per reference picture is 25 €.

1.5 Distribution

1.5.1 Where is my product picture made visible?

First the reference picture is linked to the corresponding product class and displayed within the eCl@ss-search. Multipliers such as market places, communities and online industry portals, on the other hand link their web structures to the eCl@ss-search and therefore provide a rapid distribution of the reference pictures.

1.5.2 My competitor has placed his product as eCl@ss-class reference picture. What can I do?

In general, there are several competing suppliers, and thus potentially competing interested parties for product classes. To ensure the transparent awarding of contracts for picture site rights, it takes place in the already described auction process.

1.6 The Pictures: Content and quality

1.6.1 Is my picture the only one that is provided for a product class?

Yes. The product picture is THE reference for the corresponding product class within the eCl@ss standard and will be linked accordingly.

1.6.2 Why makes the reference picture so unique and valuable?

There is almost no advertising that cannot be copied - at least not at affordable prices. To answer this question, eCl@ss has developed an entertaining video, which you can access here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Up_5S7m8EVs

1.6.3 What demands are made regarding a product picture?

A product picture must meet certain requirements regarding its content. In order to be used as an eCl@ss reference picture, the following rules apply:

  • The picture must have a direct, substantive reference to the class to which it is assigned.
  • The picture must represent a typical product of the class.
  • The entire product must be presented (no detail cutout).
  • The picture must have a white background; a frame is not allowed. Anything that does not belong to the product is considered as background.
  • The picture may contain manufacturer information.
In addition, a class reference picture must meet the following technical requirements:
  • Format: JPG
  • Color mode „RGB“
  • White background and without shadow (R:255, G:255, B:255)
  • Resolution: min. 96 dpi
  • Size: 300 x 300 pixels to 400 x 400 pixels (all intermediate formats possible)
  • The name of the picture file must contain the eCl@ss-identifier and conceptually comply with the following example: "AAA123.jpg"

1.6.4 In what way can I place my logo? What information can I place?

The picture may contain defined manufacturer information. Acceptable forms are:

  • Logo representation
  • Logo / name of the manufacturer, also internet address (company- / product labeling are also counted as advertising area)
The area taken as a whole, which is required by the manufacturer's information together may not exceed 6% of the graphics area. To calculate the area\’s percentage, an encircling, horizontal rectangle is put around all areas that contain manufacturer information. This rectangle may then contain no more than the mentioned 6% of the graph area. If there are several areas with manufacturer information present, one rectangle, which surrounds all respective areas, is to be set.

1.6.5 What if my product pictures do not have a white background (as required)?

The delivery of the product pictures according to the required quality is within the responsibility of the user. For the editing of delivered pictures, the eCl@ss office offers a charged service. The editing fee per reference picture is 25 €.

1.6.6 Who can help me with the quality of my pictures?

The delivery of the product pictures according to the required quality is within the responsibility of the user. For the editing of delivered pictures, the eCl@ss office offers a charged service. The editing fee per reference picture is 25 €.
